About ACT3i Festival for Children

Welcome to the ACT3i Festival for Children, a celebration of Arts and Theatre specifically catered for babies and early years. With a strong passion to feed young minds, build imagination and support developmental growth, our purpose for this festival is to share the cruciality and importance of early years arts and that it should be established at the very first stage of life. Curating and presenting immersive and sensorial Children’s Theatre performances from all over the world, we hope that each and every story will surprise, fascinate and stimulate little ones to observe, reach out and interact.

This year, the festival will be held once again at the historical Asian Civilisations Museum. We are very fortunate to continue our partnership with them for the second year and hope that you will enjoy your time spent in this majestic venue.

ACT 3

AESOPICA

An Experiential Programme of Show and Workshops
Singapore

For ages 4 to 8
June 1 to June 9, 2019
River Room
Asian Civilisations Museum
Running Time: 2 hours 30 minutes

Watch a performance, participate in fun workshops and complete it all with a grand FINALE – a colourful procession together with Aesop’s animals around the Asian Civilisations Museum!

Based entirely on the wonderful collection of Greek storyteller Aesop’s most famous fables, this exciting programme will begin with a 20-minute performance told within an Asian-inspired art installation setting. After watching the performance, your child will join other children and take turns participating in two very special 30-minute workshops.

In Drama, your child will learn to move and physicalise actions with creative expression as the many different animal characters from the stories! In Music and Movement, he will pick up the skills needed to follow a tune, memorise lyrics and move to the music, all at one go!

Right before the programme ends, join these dedicated children as they take you on a glorious procession around the museum, an architectural landmark filled with more than 100 years of history. Last but not least, be awed as they present a finale performance on the steps of the museum’s front porch as you take in the aura of time gone by.

Who is A Line Art?

Anna Bruder and Arji Manuelpillai met making an Educational Young People’s production at the Young Vic Theatre in 2010. In 2011 they started an interactive theatre and art company called A Line Art which specialises in immersive theatre performances and art events for children, young people and their families.

‘What an amazing idea. At last something exciting and fun!’ Timeout

‘Their main aim is to inspire and encourage creative play. A Line Art is known for its strong illustrative aesthetic that Anna has honed for the last 7 years. The style takes the audience back to a childlike state of mind by transforming the original interior into an illustrated world. The work is fully accessible and has been described as ‘impeccable’. By aiming at naivete, her drawing style functions anti-hierarchically: anyone in the room, adult or child, could have drawn what she’s drawn, and that allows anyone to give it a go.’ Exeunt Magazine

“A Line Art has developed a huge following for their unique brand of interactive art and musical theatre shows where children and adults take part together.”

Who is Schoeme?

Schoemé is a South African actor, puppeteer, writer, drama teacher, director and founder of PuppeTrix; a theatre company specializing in theatre for 0 to 6 year olds. During her Drama and Theatre Arts studies she came to love theatre for young audiences. For her, the honesty and authenticity that lies within an audience of youngsters, can rarely be found elsewhere in theatre.

This honesty and authenticity give artists like herself the immense privilege to tap into a magical world of endless possibilities. Within those possibilities she wants to create meaningful work of quality for youngsters and their caregivers. Apart from South African festivals and performances in kindergartens, in 2018 she had the privilege to perform in Italy at Festival Visioni.
