ACT 3i Festival Sweet

By | ACT3 iFestival for Children | No Comments

“We are transforming the ION Art Gallery space into a stimulating environment where we want to take children on a journey of different levels. On one level, it is about desserts to inspire art-making. Then, on another level, it is about learning kindness, being giving, and thoughtfulness, and here is where we incorporate the story of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to tell the story of a poor boy who had nothing but gave everything of himself. Lastly, the level where we leave children with an awareness to watch what they eat, especially sweet things.”

Packed with Exquisite, High Quality,
Awe-Inspiring Theatre Performances

We are proud to announce the launch of a brand new ACT 3i Festival for Children dedicated to children from 2 to 12 years old. It is packed with exquisite, high quality and awe-inspiring theatre performances that will include original works from Singapore, Italy, Sweden, Argentina, the U.K and Canada, an artfully curated visual arts programme, as well as convivial sessions led by Children’s Theatre artists that are aimed at educators and parents.

Taking place daily from 24 May to 5 June 2016 at the centrally-located Drama Centre, our new festival is about well-crafted as well as ground-breaking work that is thought-provoking for both parent and child. The ultimate aim is to give young audiences a unique and memorable experience that is different from broad-based children’s entertainment to enrich their lives through Arts and Culture. For this festival, we worked with renowned and emerging children’s theatre companies that are exploratory in nature and who are ever ready to challenge pre-conceptions.

Our long standing experience in presenting festivals and events dedicated to children is the very impetus for building on the growth of Children’s Theatre and the Arts, and this brand new festival further empowers us to realise our vision of providing a culturally enriched life to children living in Singapore.

Who is Principio Attivo Teatro?

Formed in 2007, Principio Attivo Teatro or in English, Active Ingredient Theatre, is a theatre collective of artists of various skills, who come together, share their knowledge, create and showcase amazing original productions, like Hanà and Momò, made specifically for young children. Having participated in important theatre festivals and events in and around Europe and South America, the company wins awards with their works. This is their first time to Asia and Singapore.

Principio Attivo Teatro

Hanà e Momò

Italy

For ages 3 to 8
May 31 to June 5, 2016
Drama Centre Visitors Centre
Running Time: 60 minutes

Hanà and Momò are two girls who meet for the first time. Hanà wants to play but Momò wants to be left alone to concentrate on her beautiful drawings in the sand. Feeling abandoned and left with just a tiny bit of space for her own creations, Hanà decides to claim her rightful spot and challenges Momò to a game of artistic and whimsical creations!

In a unique circular space of sand as its set with the audience sitting very up close, the show Hanà and Momò is a creative and imaginative invention of play and surprise. It is intimate, unequaled yet familiar. Two actors are artful at the use of movement, sound and creative props which, when viewed at close range, will immerse the audience with ease into the journey of the characters.

Freely adapted from the book Fairy Tale of Love by Hermann Hesse, it hints on the importance of discovering happiness when doing things together.

“I saw the show in 2015 in Italy. It is a simple, endearing story that takes children into an extraordinary world of infinite possibilities to imagine, play, create, laugh and cry with the characters. Pure and honest, the interaction is gentle, the playing is subtle, yet the engagement is deep and unique.”

Claire Parsons Co

Marmalade

Sweden

For ages 2 to 6
May 31 to June 5, 2016
Drama Centre Black Box
Running Time: 40 minutes

Enter the world of Marmalade, a delicious, tactile performance about meeting, mixing and blending. What is marmalade? Is it cherries, pear, fig, mint, upside down, together or inside? With poetic movement, soft circus, stunning visuals and interaction with the audience, two dance performers invite the audience to feel, taste and think about what marmalade can be.

Exquisite, innovative and charming, the act is embedded in “red tones that echo in the spatial balls and pouffy skirts” stirring imagination, reaction and delight from its very young audience. During the performance, the audience is asked to use all of their senses.

“What I enjoy about the work is its perfectly balanced interaction with the audience, always playful but never overwhelming. The elegance and warmth makes it a beautifully played out lullaby.”

ACT 3 International with Vicky Ireland

All On A Summer’s Day

a companion piece to Shakespeare’s ‘fairytale’, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

Singapore and UK

For ages 7 to 12
May 24 to 28, 2016
Drama Centre Visitors Centre
Running Time: 60 minutes

“Shakespeare wrote a vast body of work, and like an ocean, it can be approached from the shallows, allowing young children to explore, have fun and move forwards until they are ready to become truly immersed in the wisdom, beauty and drama of his writing. Even the youngest children can have their lives transformed by seeing a Shakespeare play.” – Vicky Ireland

Sharing this vision with Vicky, who directs our talented Singaporean cast, we will present a related tale to the famous romantic comedy and give our young audiences a highly palatable taste of Beginning Shakespeare. Our story is about the Little Indian Prince, now all grown up, and what happens to him when he meets the Shoemaker’s daughter, Phoebe. Find out how they are intertwined with the world of Fairies and Elves, with Carrot and Compost, who are on a mission for the Fairy Queen, Titania, and with Oberon’s fairies, led by Puck, hot on their heels to thwart the mission. Who saves the day in the end?

“It is a wonderful step up into the world of the Bard. This companion play with its comedy, wit and adventure will sweep young audiences into an imagined world with universal lessons to begin their great love affair with great writers, stories and literature.”
