A Web of Shapes

One-off 45-min Workshop

In a world of a spider’s beautiful web, join Fawn and her friendly spider friends as they teach you the meaning of friendship that lasts forever.

In our 45-minute Drama Workshop that is interactive, inviting and tactile in nature, you and your little one will explore and play within the web as you discover spiders in all shapes and sizes – round, square, long and skinny, some with all their legs and some with less. As the story slowly unfolds, the both of you will be mesmerised as you watch Fawn creating magnificent shapes with the web and spinning it in the air, on the floor and around your baby and you.

Parent and Child Workshop

Let’s Build A Story

One-off 60-min Workshop

At the beginning of our 60-minuter Drama workshop for parent and child, you and your toddler will be invited to step into the world of the story as our Drama teacher performs a simplified version of Charlotte’s Web using hand puppets.

After the story is told, your child will work together with the other children to help build one gigantic spider’s web. Following that, the children will each be given a spider puppet which they will then manipulate to retell the story with our teacher in role as the storyteller.

Through a combination of dance, song and movement, your child will have great imaginative fun creating dramatic moments with his spider puppet on the giant spider’s web. At the end of the workshop, the spiders will fall asleep to the tune of a soothing lullaby.

For ages 3 to 4

Discover Charlotte

5-Day Workshop

With good friends like Wilbur the Pig, Templeton the Rat and Fawn the girl, Charlotte is one happy arachnid playing with them all day long. One day, she decides to spin a very large web, her last. When it is completed, she lays her eggs on it and waits for them to hatch into little baby spiders. After Charlotte leaves, her friends look after her babies and keep them happy for many days on end.

In this 5-day Drama workshop, your child will look at the story of Charlotte’s Web from a different viewpoint – through the eyes of Charlotte the spider. Through exploration, imagination and discovery, he will learn how to use simple Drama tools to tell the story with a mix of music, creative movement and choral speaking. Finally, on the last day, the children, under the guidance of the teacher in role, will put up an intimate performance for you and your guests.

For ages 5 to 7

A Barnyard Family

5-Day Workshop

In a farm not far off, a family of humans, a family of spiders, a family of pigs and a family of rats live with each other in harmony. The spider family is very large and amongst them is a little spider named Charlotte. When Charlotte grows up, she begins to spin a shiny web and lays her eggs on it. When they hatch, everyone comes together to help and support Charlotte by looking after her babies.

In this adaptation with a focus on friendship and support, your child will enjoy working together with the other children and get a chance to play many different characters. With a mix of choral and individual speaking, creative movement and role playing, your child will imagine and create the world of the farm and eventually share his moment with you in a finale showcase in our very own theatre.

For the older children, we have two very diverse workshops that will be based on an abridged version of Charlotte’s Web.

With a strong focus in creating many opportunities for each child to develop important lifelong skills, our workshops will focus on the themes of friendship, loss, love, death, sadness, strength and kindness.

For ages 8 to 12

Spin Your Own Tale

Writing Workshop

In this special one off 3-hour writing workshop, our Drama teacher in the role of a facilitator will steer your child to create and write a new story using the themes from the original, thereby developing their thinking, reflecting, conversational, imaginative, teamwork and writing skills.

Beginning with a read around, your child will take turns with the other children to read a sentence from the story. Following that, an in-depth discussion will take place in order to tease out the important themes. Then, with those themes in mind, your child will be paired up with another child to reimagine a new story and write it down together. Lastly, in a mini showcase, the children will read out their story in front of a live audience of family and friends.

For ages 8 to 12

An Entanglement of Songs

Musical Workshop

Using a simple musical score-script sung to familiar tunes, the story of Charlotte’s Web will begin with Fawn, the little girl, who sings of her dilemma when she finds out that her favourite pig is going to be slaughtered. Wilbur the pig will then share his predicament and sadness when he overhears that Charlotte, his best friend, will spin her last web before she dies. And lastly, Templeton the rat will tell us of his plight of whether he should eat well or help his friends cope with their upcoming losses.

In this 3-hour musical workshop, your child will learn how to work together with other children and create an ensemble to express themselves through movement and song in order to tell a story. With a strong focus in music, singing and complete physicality of the body, this workshop will culminate in a small private performance for parents and friends.
