Children are often encouraged to express themselves. Less attention is given to helping them understand what they believe, recognise that others may see the same idea differently, and contribute to something beyond their own point of view. Our Young Speakers holiday workshops are drama-based applied communication programmes that build independent thinking and public speaking foundations around each child’s own real ideas.
Young Speakers: One Idea, Many Voices — Ages 7 to 9
Over two days, the class explores one big question and develops one belief they can stand behind together. Each child finds a different perspective on that belief and the words to express it.
These perspectives are brought together in one shared presentation. Each child prepares and delivers one part, and the group agrees how the parts fit together so the audience can follow the whole argument.
This also touches the Stimulus-Based Conversation component of the PSLE English Oral examination.
Parents are invited in at the end of the second day to hear what the class has built together.

Young Speakers: An Idea of My Own — Ages 10 to 12
Many children have an opinion. The real skill lies in articulating it, building a convincing line of thought, and helping others understand their point of view.
Over two days, children explore one substantial question and each develops an individual position. They consider different perspectives, test their first assumptions against them, and decide what they want their audience to understand.
Each child shapes that thinking into a short original presentation, working with the foundations of public speaking: organising an idea, speaking with purpose, and addressing an audience directly.
This also touches the Stimulus-Based Conversation component of the PSLE English Oral examination.
Parents are invited in at the end of the second day to hear the children present their individual ideas.
