Take your students on an impactful learning journey of self-discovery, exploration and critical thinking. Our unique Two in One programme with a Show and Drama Workshop is inspired by high quality classic Literature.

You and your students will begin the journey by watching a 30-minute theatrical performance. Right after, with the story fresh in their minds, your students will further this experience with a workshop session where they will unpack the story and flesh out the scenes. They will also discuss and share their perspectives, working together to explore and question thoughts and intentions.

The Caged Parrot

Combining a mix of art forms – storytelling, dramatisation, dance, song, and colourful costumes – The Caged Parrot is a Persian folk tale about a merchant who traps a wild parrot and keeps her in a beautiful cage in his big house. Thinking that she will be happy living there, he offers her good food and treats her well. One day, she requests that he passes a message to her parrot brothers and sisters deep in the forest. After going through a long and tiring journey, and meeting different birds along the way, the merchant realises that even though the parrot is happy, all she wants is to fly freely in the wild as herself – a wild parrot.

During the workshop, your students will participate in fun and engaging activities that will encourage verbalisation and physicalisation of thoughts and feelings. Looking at the topics of responsibility and empathy, we will open up conversations for your students to unpack the different viewpoints of the merchant and the parrot. Not only that, your students will also get to discover the amazing birds in the story – parrot, peacock, and kingfisher – and explore their unique traits and characteristics through movement and sound.

Alice

Inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
by Lewis Carroll

Alice is about a young girl trying to make sense of who she is in a distorted world filled with challenges and complexities that confuse her. Constantly encountering strange rules in Wonderland, Alice goes on a quest to understand herself, her perceptions and her identity.

Centering on significant themes such as identity, uniqueness, responsibility, courage, resilience and adaptability, our two-in-one programme will incorporate Literature, Drama, Language, Art and Music that will invite conversations for your students to think and feel together with Alice. Expressing their thoughts and feelings through physicalisation, verbalisation, written text and drawing, your students will learn about themselves and their strengths, what it means to be unique, and how to manage the ever changing world they live in and adjust to those changes.

This programme is eligible under the Tote Board Arts Grant subsidy.

Hansel, Where are You?

Inspired by the Brothers Grimm Tale

Things are not what they seem in this recreation of the classic tale by the Brothers Grimm. Hansel has mysteriously disappeared into the dark forest which pushes Gretel to find strength within herself to search for him and uncover the truth. Despite knowing the dangers lurking within, she steps into the unknown only to realise that the search is futile. Abandoned by her father, she meets a woman who invites Gretel to her home. Faced with dilemmas, Gretel must now make her choice.

Hansel, Where are You? is about Gretel’s journey, focusing on issues such as abandonment, loss, uncertainty, moral dilemmas, and family conflict, eventually driving the key messages of Courage, Resilience, and Responsibility. It will offer your students a platform to share their thoughts and feelings, discuss and make sense of the world of the narrative. Through these conversations, your students will draw from their own personal experiences, ultimately finding meaning, making connections and offering possible resolutions.

This programme is eligible under the Tote Board Arts Grant subsidy.
